WHAT IS W7CRT?
W7CRT is an amateur radio call sign assigned by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for use by the Daisy Mountain Civilian Emergency Response Team (CERT). This call sign is used by any FCC-licensed amateur radio operator within the CERT organization during team exercises. These exercises often involve coordination with the Maricopa County Emergency Operations Center, other CERT teams across Arizona and the Southwest, and local training activities.
Daisy Mountain CERT amateur radio operators utilize a variety of team owned radios and antenna systems to support their communications. The team is also equipped with backup generators and solar power systems, enabling operations to continue independently of commercial power during emergency situations.
The radio systems used by the team support both local and regional communications. Locally, operators rely on mountaintop repeaters maintained by the Arizona Repeater Association. For broader coverage, high-frequency (HF) radios allow communication over hundreds of miles, enabling coordination with regional teams and the transmission of emergency traffic.
